Koleje Śląskie (Śląskie Railways) is a company created by the resolution of the Śląskie Voivodship Assembly on 17th of February 2010. The company’s goal is providing transport services for the public within the voivodship areas and in the cross-border zone, according to the specifications given by the communal public transport co-ordinator, in this case the Marshal of the Śląskie Voivodship.


The Śląskie Voivodship is a special place on the railway map of the country. It is here that one can find the densest network of railway lines – and nearly all of them are electrified. Koleje Śląskie would like to play a key role among the passenger carriers operating within the Śląskie Voivodship; it wants to provide services of the highest quality, while maintaining strict safety standards and looking after the comfort of the passengers themselves. There are plans for a gradual introduction of new attractive offers for the passengers, which would invite the residents of the area to leave their cars at home and to enjoy travelling in clean and comfortable trains at low cost. Ultimately, residents of the Śląskie agglomeration are to be able to use the Koleje Śląskie trains and the city transport system with just one ticket.


The local authority of the Śląskie Voivodship granted the company the use of its complete rolling stock depot. The modern railway rolling stock used by the carrier consists of nine electric trains (EZT) ELF, four EZT of the FLIRT type and two 212M rail buses. At the end of August 2011, the company completed the tendering procedure for the lease of five modernised EZT in the AKM class – they are to start work at the beginning of 2012.
